CILEA has built and manages an articulated infrastructure for electronic publishing. It is meant for documents produced by universities and research institutes. But it can be used by any publisher of digital information.

 

 

Since 2003, CILEA has offered the AEPIC service. It uses advanced solutions for the management, filing, fruition and conservation of digital documents. The offered services have a low cost and include:

• management of indexed archives of full-text papers and scientific reports (e.g. E-prints and collections of single scientific papers or pamphlets). The archives can be connected with information services for the management of research projects (e.g. SUR+);
• management of thesis and didactic material (exercise books, notes, slides and so on);
• E-publishing platform for electronic periodicals, scientific and educational monographs, conference proceedings;
• management of electronic versions of digitised papers (images series);
• education about the problems of open archives and e-publishing.

 

 

Moreover, all the services mentioned can be connected with an infrastructure for  print-on-demand.

 

 

In order to integrate the offered services, CILEA has collaborated with CASPUR to make a national platform for open archives, called PLEIADI.

 

 

The first production of AEPIC is the international open archive E-LIS: E-Prints in Library and Information Science. 

 

 

AEPIC provides also support for the use of other software tools that are useful for libraries. These include tools which can be useful in several activities that normally take place in libraries (e.g. management of conferences, help-desk, trouble ticketing/reference or line, forms, and so on).
